As temperatures get warmer and the days get longer, we all start to dream about summertime. But no one wants to cake their face in makeup or have to wear longs sleeves all summer long. So what can you do now to prepare your skin for summer fashion? Here are 4 tips to prepare your skin for summer.
Take a Holistic Approach
When it comes to healthy skin, you must take a holistic approach. That means exercising, drinking water, eating well and getting enough sleep.
Be sure to schedule exercise into your day or into your week and don’t let anyone or anything take it away from you.
Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated in the sweltering summer.
Watch your alcohol consumption. For me, nothing tastes better than an ice cold beer on a hot summer day. But, alcohol is not good for your skin and interrupts sleep. I don’t know if it’s my age, but the latter is definitely true for me these days. I can feel hungover the next day after having just one cocktail the night before!
Be sure to eat a lot of whole foods. This tends to be easier in certain parts of the country in the summer when it’s easy to hit up all the local farmer’s market.
Exfoliate For a Healthy Glow
Use a dry brush to exfoliate your body before you take a shower. This will slough off dead skin cells and improve your skin’s circulation. For more information on why and how you should dry brush check out this article from Shape Magazine.
To exfoliate the skin of your face, use a glycolic alpha hydroxy peel. Look for one with only 10-20% glycol acid or as low as 5% if you have sensitive skin. These peels help slough dead skin cells and brighten skin. You should see immediate clarity in your skin. Only apply at night because these do increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun.
May is skin cancer awareness month. Every year, there are 4 million diagnoses of skin cancer. One in five people reading this will be diagnosed in your lifetime.
90% of non-melanoma skin cancer is related to UV sun exposure. We love the sun, but it is the main culprit. Sunscreen must be non-negotiable!
At Willing Beauty, we have the perfect sun protection for your face. Both our Get Set SPF30 Tinted Primer and Face the Day SPF30 Tinted Protection are just what you need to protect your face from both UVA and UVB rays.
Don’t forget to use an SPF on your lips too. One of my favorites is All Good Lip Balm. They use all safe ingredients including a mineral sunscreen.
Want Your Feet to be Sandal Ready?
Get your feet ready for flip flops by soaking them in Epsom salts or using a sugar scrub at night. Then slather them with Shea butter, wrap them in saran wrap and put socks on before you head to bed.
If you do this consistently for a week, you will see a difference in your feet and they will be flip flop and sandal ready!
I hope you enjoy getting your skin summer ready. It’s almost here and I am so ready for it!
