Skin Care Tips for Tweens and Teens
Skin damage is cumulative. The way you take care of your skin when you’re young has a direct impact on your future skin. The sooner you start a healthy skin care regimen, the more likely you are to have healthy skin in the future; in your 20s 30s 40s and beyond. So what are some skin care tips for tweens and teens?
When it comes to your skin prevention is key
At Willing Beauty we believe in a “start young, stay young” philosophy. That’s why we have two skin care regimens designed specifically for your tweens, teens, and young adults.
How often should your tweens and teens be washing their face?
It depends. If they haven’t hit puberty or don’t deal with acne, then just cleansing their skin at night is fine. At the end of the day, it is important that they wash their face.
Use a gentle, nontoxic cleanser like our Start Fresh Foaming Facewash. Soaps can be very drying. They should pay special attention to their hairline, nose, and chin where breakouts and blackheads tend to occur. Be sure to model just how to do it the first time.
If your tween or teen is beginning to see blackheads or white pimples, treat them with our Pore Perfector Breakout Banishing Pads. Use in the t-zone area to help clean out pores. They target acne-causing bacteria deep down with salicylic acid, a tried-and-true blemish banisher. Willow bark, lentil seed, and orange extracts team up to reduce oil and irritation. The result? Barely there pores and brighter, clearer skin.
If your child plays sports, these pads are great to use after practice. If they wear a helmet, the hairline can be a breeding ground for bacteria leading to breakouts. It’s important to clean helmets on a regular basis.
A gentle exfoliator, such as our Clear Skin Exfoliating Cleanser can be used several times weekly. It also has salicylic acid as its active ingredient.
Be sure to follow up cleansing with a lightweight moisturizer such as Zero Shine Mattifying Moisturizer. This moisturizer keeps shine in check and leaves skin radiantly balanced.
Keep our Take Action Acne Spot Treatment on hand for when those pesky blemishes pop up.
Finally, our Peel Away Charcoal Mask gives you the perfect bonding activity to do with your child. It draws out impurities and refines pores for smoother, brighter skin.
Your tweens learn skin care habits from YOU! It’s important to model good skincare behavior.
What is the best product to treat acne?
We recommend avoiding products with benzoyl peroxide because it is harsh and dries out your skin. You’ll notice that products containing benzoyl peroxide will bleach towels. Instead, use acne treatments with soothing salicylic acid as the active ingredient. Our Clear Skin Regimen boasts salicylic acid as its active ingredient. It can take 4-6 weeks to see the results of a skincare regimen. Be patient.
Don’t wait until you have a problem. Just like brushing teeth, it’s important to be consistent with a skincare regimen. It’s also important to get enough sleep, have fun hobbies that can relieve the stress of school, and take some me time after school to decompress. Also, remember certain foods can make you break out. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Sugar and dairy can make you break out. Don’t forget to hydrate with water throughout the day.
If your teen has cystic acne see a dermatologist. Even if doing everything right, hormones can certainly play a role.
Skin care for tweens and teens is so important. As parents we need to promote a healthy lifestyle for our children. Lead by example and let your tweens and teens know how important taking care of their skin now is to their future selves.
